33rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

NOVEMBER 16, 2008

Dear Friends in Christ,

This weekend is Stewardship Weekend.  It reminds each and every one of us to look at how we manage the gifts that God has entrusted to us.  They might be time, talents, treasures, health, and so forth.  Most of us might not have as many gifts as we wish, yet I believe, (I think you do, too), that each of us receives some.  These gifts are given to you and me according to God’s plan.  Because not a single person gets all the gifts, we need to put our gifts together;  because each of has a different personality, in order to work together and put our God-given gifts to good use, we must humble ourselves before God and others.  And  remember that God expects each of us to use it/them according to his will.  His will is: bringing “profits.”

The gospel mentions how the servants use the “money” that each of them has received from their master before he went away for a long period of time.  Each of them used their money, but in different ways. The first two used it in the way that their master wanted.  The last one used it in a selfish way: he buried it—he did not care or think about how to profit from that money.  And he was the one who was thrown into the “darkness.”

Friends, let us think about our gifts that we have received from God, and let us also think about how we have used them, and how we should use them in the future, for God really wants to “get” something from what he has given us.

Definitely, no one wants his/her gifts to be taken away, nor to be thrown into the “darkness” by God when he comes and asks about the “profit.”  Every one of us wants to hear from God when he comes:  “My good and faithful servant, come and share your master’s joy.”

What should we do with our gifts to deserve these words from God when he comes in glory?

Our parish has many ministries and needs where you can use your God-given gifts.

Peace,

Fr. Tien

SINCERELY, SILENCED

Colleen, a young lady from Massachusetts has written this poem to an abortion doctor.  It is thought provoking and clear to the point.

Dear abortion doctor:

How is your conscience as you walk in the light?

Do you hear the cries of the babies who died in the still of the night?

How is your soul?  Do you yearn for somebody to fill in the hole?

Do you think you’re doing what’s right?  Robbing the most innocent of hearing and sight?

How is your heart?  Is it healthy and strong or torn all apart?

How are your hands?  Are they life-giving and protecting as your profession demands?

How is the pay?  Do you have enough money to make the hurt go away?

How is your mind?  Do you use the gifts God’s given you to sustain humankind?

Is there love that you feel or do greed and pride prevent you to heal?

Where is your faith?  Do you think GOD makes mistakes you are meant to erase?

Dear abortion doctor, please consider allowing God’s grace to guide you and lead you to a life-giving place.  If you yearn to have peace, please make this holocaust finally cease.  For it is you with the power and you with the skill to stop what you’re doing and follow God’s will.

                                                Sincerely, Silenced

(From The Servants of the Heart of the Father)
